Calling all rock collectors, nature lovers, jewelry makers, geologists, lapidary artists, and anyone else who has ever felt the pull of gems calling them… are you ready to discover your favorite new hobby?

Rockhounding is defined as “the activity of hunting for minerals, rocks, crystals, and gemstones,” but it has become so much more to me. As someone who has loved rocks since childhood, getting to find my own gems and incorporate them into my jewelry business has been life changing! I picked back up my passion for rockhounding at a point in my life when I needed it the most, and now I want to share the happiness and peace it has brought me with all of you. And of course… I want to help you build your own collection of AWESOME GEMS!

After years of experience, research, exploration, and successfully hunting down almost all the gems North Carolina has to offer, I decided to compile everything I know about rockhounding into 20 pages of absolute gold. This course contains the answers to all the questions a newbie hound could have; and the more seasoned rockhounds might even find it helpful too!

(While I specialize in North Carolina gems, this course can be applied ANYWHERE!)

So…

Why should you choose Intro to Rockhounding?

  • Streamlined learning. You could always spend hours online lost in a maze of websites trying to make sense of the hodgepodge of facts being thrown at you… or you could simply have it all handed to you! This guide is beginner friendly, easy to understand, and walks you through ALL the steps of rockhounding in an order that makes sense.

  • An experienced teacher. I can’t call myself an “expert” quite yet, but the years of successful rockhounding I have under my belt have proved to be very valuable. Experience is the best teacher, but not everyone has that much time to waste on months of unsuccessful rockhounding trips for the sake of learning!

  • More successful rock hunts. Putting all that effort into a day of rockhounding just to come up with nothing can be so disheartening. I’ve had my fair share of unlucky days, especially when I was just getting started, so I know the feeling. By using just a few of the tips in this course, you’ll already have a massive leg up in the rockhounding game.

Sounds perfect, right? It just keeps getting better! Let’s talk details…

What can you expect from this course?

  • A thorough explanation of safety & legal precautions. Rockhounding can get dangerous at times, so starting with a strong foundation like this will ensure that you can keep hounding for years to come.

  • Five steps to take before ever setting foot into the field. Preparing ahead of time will save you the hassle of so many unsuccessful trips.

  • Places to search, no matter where you live. I compiled nine great locations to search for rocks, and even added a few tips on how to maximize your success at each one.

  • A list of my must-have tools. I’ve tried out more tools than I’d like to admit, so I curated a list of my absolute favorites to make it easier on you. I even explained how to use each one!

  • How to use geology to your advantage. This is an awesome tool in furthering your understanding of rockhounding and the geological environment you live in, which makes all the difference in what kinds of rocks you’ll actually be able to find.

  • How to identify rocks and gems. What tools to use, what to look for, defining characteristics, and so much more! This section was very highly requested, so I did my best to explain the exact techniques I use.

  • What steps to take next. You were able to find some gems! Yay! But now what? This section will walk you through several related paths you can explore to further your love for rocks.

  • A photo gallery. I picked out some photos from my own personal trips that showcase rockhounding spots, rough gems, examination techniques, and more. It provides a nice visual element to a few of my favorite tips.

Intro to Rockhounding contains 16 pages of written information, a clickable table of contents, and a 3-page photo gallery with image descriptions.
